Like other municipalities across the country, the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in an immediate shock to our local economy. The resilience of small and minority owned businesses is fundamental to the nation’s economic recovery. We recognize that it is critical for Kansas City to maintain its commitments to building a more inclusive local economy.
The Small Business Big Voice Listening Tour launched in partnership with City Councilor Members Eric Bunch (4th District), Ryana Parks-Shaw (5th District), and Andrea Bough (6th District), as well as The KC BizCare Office and Alt-Cap in an effort to meet with small business owners and understand what issues are preventing their businesses from thriving in today’s economy. It is the intention of the tour to document issues raised by the small business community and respond with action from City Hall and our entrepreneur support partners.
Municipalities use listening sessions to inform people about important issues, to build support for a cause, and to discuss potential solutions to problems facing their communities. The virtual forums will be useful tools for obtaining specific information or feedback, such as to gain clarity or further explore what Kansas City small businesses need during this time.
